I trained in Kodokan Judo when I was in Japan back in 1968 while attending high school. I was lucky enough to take my black belt test with Resei Kano judging the Randori and 2 other judges plus my Sensei. I was only 16 or 17 at the time.I am Japanese trained and I also used some techniques successfully in wrestling as well. I used to teach in my last year of school in the USA. I later used Judo in law enforcement and crave to go back into Judo again. The techniques I watched were good only in a few rare situations. Others used wrestling moves and poor grappling techniques. Sometimes you can;t always get a good technique on your opponent as they train in the same techniques as you do. You have to be smart and know how to "Decoy" a move and then use that opening to complete another technique. I learned to do that will all the Japanese black belts I beat. P.S. Anybody remember that cartoon in Japan that had a Japanese boy into some very active training??? IT was Not "Judo Boy" but another similar cartoon with a younger boy who was going through special training above and beyond all other Judoka. (1968-1970)??? Arigato !!!

+Tim Spriggs True! But Judo and Aikido are of the Gentle Arts....You are using the "Energy" of an assailant against himself. If you know how to fall, you will be fine. If not, then it is in God's hands. Study hard....

JohnDrakeMI6 oh, I was just being funny. I agree, it is the best way for a disalbled person like me (car accident 2001). But, when I was in my 20/s and just out of the Army (only studied Martial Arts in a book really) this black guy in my electronics class rushed me for no reason (pushing me) . So I grabbed his shirt and took him with me backwards. He went over me and hit a Harley parked close by, probably hitting the cylinder head with his head. Fight was over and he had to lick his wound , which was no doubt a good one. This was on asphault and an incline goind downhill a bit. One older student said, "That was cool." "Luck favors the prepared mind."

+Tim Spriggs I figured, but totally agree with you.Sorry to hear about your accident. I just had a fender bender last week and some "punks" cut in front of me from the left lane. The failed to stop.(Hit & Run) So I chased them down.Geico p0aid for everything. $1,500 damage.I still drive an old 89 BMW(used) 415,200 miles.... I'm ex-Cop & Fed. I am 63 now and slowing down a bit and if WE are attacked, we still need to be able to take action without be "obvious". Check out my site: www.customscorruption.com

JohnDrakeMI6 impressive. but here's a question: is Putin a lightweight in Judo or what? For a black belt especially.

His unorthodox moves are interesting. He's watching the feet with his lower peripheral vision. He has great toe strength and a keen sense of the opponent's center of gravity, without looking directly and giving what he knows away. He does eye and object peripheral vision training.

People don't know behind stories where these Japenise players staying at luxury hotel and facilities in regular king size bed, the international players had to endure sleeping on styrofoam mattress on paper box bed without TV and refrigerator in 100 degree humid weather eating crappy Fukushima radioactive food.

The way you edit these videos is terrible. It's all chopped up so you never get to see a whole technique as it progresses. Please get a new editor.
