As a former Judo competitor through the 1960s and 1970s I can say that the sport has truly evolved. Although judo is a Japanese sport, over the years each country that competes on the world stage has added their own flavor to the sport and made it even better. The competition is great, but...it is the underlying philosophy of judo that sets it apart from so many other sports.

Great, great video, but De Witt and his Kharbarelli technique deserved more focus - perhaps a Neil Adams follow-up exlaining it would be nice? Quite spectacular in the day of no leg grabs.

I'm 23 years old and im so atracted to this discipline but at the same time I feel so afraid about risk my health with all the stuff I saw in these videos. Is like they are trying to break necks. But damm i feel i need to learn judo

It's is the second safest combat sport, and doesn't give much in the way of brain damage. Probably only beat by bjj for least brain damage. But safer than BJJ for everything else.

I'm nine I'm a girl I i do judo I'm a yellow belt. My judo teacher said that I was a beast. I went against 5 people I won all of them two rounds! I beat up a blue belt! But I'm not the best a judo I my favorite throw is ippon seo nage.

Just wondering, do you have to be strong to take down an opponent or is it Timing + Momentum + Technique ?

G I heard it's more about timing and technique but if your opponent also knows judo and is stronger they are at an advantage. But if they don't know it you're at an advantage.

I'm no expert, but I'd think that a lot of the techniques in Judo would still be effective without the gi(the uniform)...OR you could just go to a submission grappling school that combines wrestling/judo and BJJ all into one.

I always fancied judo.......but as a little boy I went just once, the dude there told me to grapple with someone for an entire hour. BTW this SOMEONE was a black belt.........and didnt hold back, so I just lay on the floor, with lots of aggression and ZERO skill...........and apparently zero determination cos I never went back, but it certainly taught me a lot of respect for it.

To be honest, i hate watching judo now a day and olympic judo. Beside their techniques does not look good but also they forget about the basic of judo, is when u fall u must avoid injury, most of them when they are focus on throwing their opponent they get their head bang on the ground, that's dangerous and not judo at all.
