Mexico is an emerging player in world judo and after successfully hosting the world masters last year in Guadalajara, the nation eagerly awaited judo's return to its shores for the penultimate event before 2017s show piece, the Suzuki world judo championships in Budapest.
There were many new names and young up and comers on show and we'll see how all of them got on as well as seeing some familiar faces doing their thing.
We'll bring you Hashimoto Soichi's thoughts ahead of his first world championship appearance this year.
And we'll see if Luz Olvera could become Mexico's FIRST world judo tour gold medallist.
