After the Havana Grand Prix 2016 in January the International Judo Federation visited local dojos to see how the sport is changing the lives of young Cuban's who also had a special visit from their hero and Olympic champion Idalys Ortiz (CUB).

Coming from a binational, cuban judo family i understand completely how perseverant and creative you must be in Cuba to practice sports and Judo in particular, remembering specially the "Judo-Gis",made by my grandma with "Recycled Tissue' ,used to pack Corn ", for each one of my 5 brothers and myself,to be able to train with my pop and dad, back in my kindergarten years.

Master yo como cubano no te recomiendo ir para mas que turistear unas 2 semanas en ciudades como Varadero La Habana Matanzas Cien fuegos y ese tipo de ciudades porque si vas a Cuba ciudad no turística que por lo general son las mas ricas en dinero y cultura ya que si vas a otra ciudad te decepcionaras por el ambiente pobre y depresivo que hay actualmente yo no vivo en Cuba por eso si no me hubiera quedado la verdad.

I'm glad I got to see one of their Dojos in Havana. I learned a valuable lesson from one of the Judokas, "Your Gi is like your Bible. You take it everywhere you travel." Les deseo lo mejor para estos campiones!
