Ono is unstoppable. He will take gold. Anything else will be a huge upset. Its more open on the other medals. An changrim is my pick for silver, If he doesnt meet Ono in the early rounds. Orujov and Macias for bronze. Very interested category. Along with -81 I think this is the best category.

My picks are completely identical to yours. It’s just unimaginable how dominant Ono is. Normally everyone would doubt the ability of an athlete to compete at the highest level after taking such a long break. However it’s stunning how it just doesn’t seem to affect him. He always comes back as dominant as before.

@@paulstarstarpaul5700 I wouldn’t call Ono his time in the shadows as “inactive”. If not mistaken the stepped down from participating in competitions due to his college etc. But did not stop practicing.

@@dominus6224 I know that he didn’t stop training. However competition always is different from normal randoris. And in all sports people who don’t compete regularly often have problems staying on the top of the Game no matter if they are Training or not.

@@paulstarstarpaul5700 True, but people pretend like he went back to some random dojo to do his randori or for that matter didn’t train.

@@dominus6224 yeah that’s true it may seem like Ono just appears and is the best, but it’s easy to forget the effort he puts in.

From a competetive point of view, we shouldn't ignor Igor Wandtke. He can make upsets happen, since his defence looks rly solid to me.

This will be the most interesting category, not because that ono will probably get the gold, but because there will be very interesting fights about other medals.

How do you not seed Ono?
@joewwright92
@joewwright92 3 жыл бұрын
Seedings go from world rankings and Ono has not been active the last year (presumably by his own choice as he autoqualifies because Japan is hosting) so other more active fighters have overtaken him in the rankings.
@markphillips3340
@markphillips3340 3 жыл бұрын
I appreciate your explanation. Thank you. But in practical terms, technical adherence to seeding criteria, which fails to account for total competitive resume, will only produce an early exit for a seeded fighter. Having a seeded fighter face Ono in the first round is unfair (and fails to maximize competitiveness) in the extreme
@joewwright92
@joewwright92 3 жыл бұрын
@@markphillips3340 I agree. Takes some of the excitement out if you get Ono vs An Changrim in the 3rd round instead of the final as well. You basically know who has won gold after that fight.

People don't know behind stories where these Japenise players staying at luxury hotel and facilities in regular king size bed, the international players had to endure sleeping on styrofoam mattress on paper box bed without TV and refrigerator in 100 degree humid weather eating crappy Fukushima radioactive food while Japenise players eat separate from the rest avoid eating Fukushima radioactive poison food.
