Wonderful video! Thanks for giving referees some attention. In my opinion, they get quite to little. I'm a referee myself (at a very low level) and this gives me so much confidence. When I started refereeing, I was 16 and such a quite person; I felt so uncomfortable with speaking infront of groups. After the first two hours of being on the tatami, I was suddenly able to use my voice. I love refereeing and I'm so thankful for this opportunities. Also great thanks to the international referees and all the other ones for making our great sport possible. Referees are only in the spotlight, when they make mistakes. I hope, this will change and redress become role models and "stars" like athletes are. I think, this video helps for this process. Thanks!

Why don’t you guys crawl on the ground and move around during newaza like the refs back then? Now you don’t even know what’s happening in newaza and many get chocked out unconscious which is so dangerous. Also, after someone gets choked out, why do refs just stand there and do nothing!?? Lift their legs up and shake them or something!

Every referee is a judoka, most of them former players or coaches with their own clubs. They are however, not free to operate on the tatami as they would if they were players or coaches. They are instructed by the IJF (by whom they employed) to conduct themselves in a particular way. Therefore, it would better for you to address your remarks to the IJF who dictate the conduct of the referees .
